Smudge is a very spoiled “only cat” who lives with his humans, Sunny & Harold, in a tiny town north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

He eats one 2.8oz can of Tiki Cat After Dark wet food and a 1/2 cup of Royal Canin Urinary dry food per day, served on pink pedestals. He also loves frozen Churru treats and Whiskas Temptations. He drinks water from a fountain.

Smudge’s favourite toys are plastic springs from the dollar store. He plays fetch with them! It takes both Harold and Sunny throwing springs down the hallway all day to keep him occupied! He loves to stuff his springs under the stove so he can try fishing them out again, which is mostly unsuccessful! So about once a month, Sunny gets on her hands and knees like a sucker, and “rescues” up to 50 of them! Smudge gets so excited! It’s probably his favourite day of the month!

Smudge originally belonged to Sunny & Harold’s friend Allison, who founded the wildly popular Duck Duck Jeep movement. Allison’s vision for Smudge, was that he would be her “travelling cat”, who would accompany her on trips across North America to headline Jeep events, where she was a true rockstar in every sense of the word. She even made Smudge his own Instagram, @smudgethejeepkitty, in order to chronicle their adventures together.

Unfortunately, as Smudge was reaching kitty puberty & their journey together was just beginning, Allison suddenly passed away, leaving her partner and Jeep community devastated.

Several months after Allison’s passing, her partner, Jason, found himself with both her pets and his, which was fine when there were two people to take care of them, but now that he was on his own, he was becoming overwhelmed. Smudge had also never been to a vet before and at 15 months old, he’d begun marking the house and trying to dominate the other, much older cat in the household. So, Jason made a Facebook post saying Smudge needed a new home.

Sunny saw the Facebook post first thing when she woke up, and showed it to Harold. He said he’d seen the post and had the same idea. They’d met Smudge at house parties thrown by Jason & Allison in the past, and had even had a conversation that was along the lines of “it’d be nice to have a cat, if we could get a cool one like Allison’s,” but it never went beyond that.
